I can advise the Deputy that the number of prisoners in each prison and the number of prisoners who are serving sentences in the categories requested are outlined in Tables 1 & 2 which are attached. These statistics have been taken from the most recent snapshot of the prison population dated 30 June 2025.

The Irish Prison Service publishes statistical information, including the daily prisoner population and a monthly detailed statistical report on their website: www.irishprisons.ie in the Information Centre – under Statistics & Information.

The information requested by the Deputy in respect of the breakdown of the category of offences for which women have been imprisoned in each of the past five years is provided in Table 1 Offence Category Data Women Imprisoned (per year) attached.

Please note that the figures in the table attached represent the most serious offence recorded for the sentence of imprisonment. In some instances multiple offences may have been dealt with by way of one sentence of imprisonment.
