747. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of trainees who were rejected from Garda Training College after entry for 2025 and the previous two years; the grounds for which they were removed by category, and the intake to which they belonged, in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, the Garda Commissioner is responsible for the management and administration of Garda business, including the recruitment and training of Garda Personnel. As Minister I have no role in these functions.

There are many circumstances under which a Garda trainee may not complete training with their initial intake including, but not limited to, reversion to another intake due to injury/medical issues, maternity leave or academic suspension. The Deputy will also be aware that like in any other career, an individual may choose to leave the training program if they decide it is not right for them.

Due to the very low volume of Garda trainees who do not complete training from each intake, the publication and categorisation of such data could be used to identify individuals. For data protection reasons, the requested information is therefore unavailable.

748. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the number of incidents where a member of an Garda Síochána arranged the importation of firearms parts in an official capacity in each of the past five years; the number of cases where it was subsequently determined to be for private use; and if he will make a statement on the matter. It has not been possible to obtain the information requested by the Deputy in the time available.

I will write to the Deputy directly once the information is to hand.
