728. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality if he will provide an update on efforts to ensure the site at Crooksling providing emergency international protection accommodation is fully structured, heated and serviced; when it is expected that tented structures may no longer be necessary at the site; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The IPAS Accommodation Centre at Crooksling in Co. Dublin has been in operation since 2024. Accommodation was provided at this site in tented accommodation, and since late 2024, has also been provided in existing buildings on the site following renovation works.
Residents have been accommodated solely in buildings on the site since December 2024.
Legal proceedings relating to planning arrangements for the temporary accommodation at the Crooksling centre were concluded on 23 June 2025. The ministerial order at this site was revoked, and no temporary accommodation remains on the site.
Accommodation for people seeking international protection is still being provided in the buildings at this site and this is covered by the appropriate planning exemption.
In line with the Programme for Government 2025, and the Comprehensive Accommodation Strategy for International Protection approved in 2024, the State is working to build a sustainable accommodation system, to develop more State-owned international protection accommodation, and to reduce reliance on commercial providers over time.
The State-owned site at Crooksling will continue to provide much-needed accommodation for international protection applicants as part of this long-term strategy.
