I have requested the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda authorities. Regrettably, this was not available in time and I will write to the Deputy once the information is to hand.

I understand that Parliamentary Question No 1639 of 29 April sought "the number of Gardaí, by rank, within the DMR region that have been fully trained in the usage of drones and the legislation regarding drones being used in public areas."
The Garda Air Support Unit is a national resource based at Casement Aerodrome, Baldonnel, Co. Dublin and is under the direction and control of Assistant Commissioner, Organised and Serious Crime and the operational control of Superintendent, Operational Support Services. The unit provides a 24-hour proactive and reactive service in support of operational Gardaí on the ground and specialist units.
I have been informed by Garda Authorities that members of the Garda Air Support Unit were previously trained in the use of drones as part of the Drone Evaluation Project, which is now concluded. Drones are not currently in operational use.
