Community policing is at the heart of An Garda Síochána, and all Gardaí have a role to play in community policing in the course of carrying out their duties. Community policing is also fundamental to the new Garda Operating Model which is now fully commenced in all 21 Garda Divisions.
Further detailed information in relation to Garda numbers, including Community Policing breakdowns by Division, from 2008 to April 2025, is available on my Department’s website and can be found at the following link:

I am advised by the Garda authorities that An Garda Síochána run community clinics as local initiatives to provide basic Garda services. They are usually provided by community Gardaí in community centres, local halls, schools or shopping centres.
The clinics operate with the intention of putting the needs of the communities at the centre of Garda services and improving An Garda Síochána’s ability to identify and anticipate community needs through pro-active engagement and effective service provision.
The focus of Donaghmede clinic is to deliver assistance with matters such as passport applications, driving license production, age card applications and crime prevention advice.
I am informed that the clinic takes place every Wednesday at Donaghmede Shopping Centre from 10am to 11am. There has been 52 clinics in 2024 and 28 clinics to date in 2025.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that, as of 30 June 2025, the Garda fleet includes a total of 45 Public Order Unit vans as set out in the table below:
Marked | Unmarked | Total | |
---|---|---|---|
Public Order Vans | 44 | 1 | 45 |
This information is operational and subject to change. I understand that the allocation and deployment of these vehicles is determined by An Garda Síochána based on identified operational demands and the availability of resources.
An Garda Síochána publishes detailed information on the Garda fleet from 2008 to date, including a Divisional/District monthly breakdown. Monthly fleet reports are currently available from 2020 to May 2025. This is publicly available on their website at the following link:

Combatting all forms of domestic, sexual and gender-based violence is a priority for me, this Government, for my Department and for the Garda Commissioner.
'Zero Tolerance,' the Third National Strategy on Domestic, Sexual and Gender-based Violence (DSGBV), set out an ambitious five-year programme of reform to achieve a society which does not accept DSGBV or the attitudes which underpin these crimes.
The Strategy has a significant focus on improving the systems to enable and support victims of these crimes to come forward and report them, and on ensuring there is a full range of supports and services available nationwide to empower victims and survivors.
An Garda Síochána and my Department are continuing to work hard to strengthen trust and confidence in the system, so that victims will come forward and report what has happened to them and get justice.
An Garda Síochána prioritise and proactively respond to incidents of domestic abuse.
There is a Divisional Protective Service Unit (DPSU) in every Garda Division. This ensures that when vulnerable victims of crimes such as domestic abuse and sexual violence present to Gardaí, they are met with a consistently high standard of specialist, sensitive, professional and expert assistance.
An Garda Síochána have provided the below table which outlines the number of Gardai by rank attached to the Clare-Tipperary divisional protective service bureau as of 7 July 2025.
Inspector | Sergeant | Garda | Total | |
---|---|---|---|---|
DPSU | 1 | 3 | 13 | 17 |

I am informed that when allocating and transferring Garda members to and from any Division, consideration is given to commitments and undertakings outlined in the Annual Policing Plan and priorities as determined in delivering ‘A Policing Service for The Future’.
I understand that the requirements of all Garda Divisions nationwide are also taken into account, which include:
- Local and national crime trends and workloads;
- Policing arrangements and operational strategies;
- Minimum establishment statistics;
- Local population and trends, geographical area and size;
- Transfer applications, including welfare, personnel issues and concerns.
