On 2 April 2025, I commenced the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024 which repealed the Garda Síochána Act 2005 in its entirety. Section 41 communications under the Garda Síochána Act 2005 are now referred to as section 36 communications under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.

These provisions establish a statutory framework for the Commissioner to provide information to the Secretary General and the Minister. A wide range of information may fall under these provisions.

From 2016 to July 2025 there have been 100 reports submitted to Ministers for Justice under section 41 of the Garda Síochána Act 2005, and section 36 of the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.
