A fundamental aim of the Government’s National Sports Policy 2018-2027 is to increase the levels of participation in sport and physical activity across the population. Achieving a more active society is a key part of the future. The Government is fully committed to ensuring that there is a series of well-conceived and well-funded policy programmes and initiatives are in place to deliver this outcome.
As you may be aware, a number of Major Sporting Events, attracting international and global audiences, are supported by this government, including the first-ever regular season game in Ireland on 28 September in Croke Park. A legacy programme to support the growth of American football in Ireland, with a particular focus on Flag Football, is under development by Sport Ireland in conjunction with American Football Ireland, the National Governing Body for the sport in Ireland, and the NFL. I understand that it is hoped to finalise details of this programme later this year.
