The Large-Scale Capital Project for the school referred to by the Deputy is included in my Department’s School Building Programme.

The large-scale capital project for the construction of a new extension and the refurbishment of existing facilities is to accommodate 1,000 pupils, with accommodation and classrooms for children with special educational needs.

The project is currently at Stage 3 – Tender Stage. Due diligence by the Department is a critical part of the overall completion of the Stage 3 process and is critical to ensuring quality and value for money, and that projects are progressed within overall budgetary parameters.

With respect to this project, certain issues that arose during the procurement process, and the requirement to carefully manage the capital programme within constrained capital funding caused significant delays in completing the overall procurement process. More than four years has elapsed since the publication of the contract notice and more than two years since the tender submission deadline. Given the passage of time since tenders were returned, an unacceptably high risk that the contract may not successfully be delivered within budget has been identified. On that basis and following engagement with my Department, DDLETB, as Client for this project, has made the decision to collapse the tender procedure.

DDLETB intends to issue a new procurement process for this project in due course.

Department officials will continue to work closely with DDLETB on the progression of the project.

Until such time that a contractor has been appointed, a timeline for completion cannot be provided.

Since 2020, my department has invested over €6 billion in our schools throughout the country under the National Development Plan, involving the completion of over 1,400 school building projects. Government support for this investment, including by way of supplementary capital funding, has delivered real benefits for school communities. A recent Government decision has approved €210m supplementary capital funding for my department which brings the total capital allocation for 2025 for my department to €1.6 billion.

Since 2020, the total capital invested in Co. Dublin schools is over €1.5b of which the total capital invested in Dublin Mid-West is over €239m.

From 2020 to date, 304 school building projects have been completed in Co. Dublin, this includes 39 school building projects completed in Dublin Mid-West.

Currently there are 75 school building projects (Large Scale/ASA/Modular) under construction in Co. Dublin, of which 16 are new school buildings. 11 of these school building projects are in Dublin Mid-West, 3 are new school buildings

There are also 254 school building projects (Large Scale/ASA/Modular) in Co. Dublin moving through the various stages of design, of which 49 are new school buildings. 29 of these school building projects are in Dublin Mid-West, of which 6 are new school buildings.

These projects are being delivered to ambitious timeframes, and the position on individual projects evolves all the time as they advance through various stages. The status of all projects is set out at (www.gov.ie). This is updated on a regular basis to reflect project progress through the various stages of capital appraisal, site acquisition, design, tender and construction.
