This government is fully committed to supporting children with special educational needs to fulfil their full potential and the Programme for Government makes a number of commitments to deliver on this objective.

The school referred to by the Deputy is one of the five new special schools being established for the 2025/26 school year. A former school property is currently being re-purposed to facilitate the opening of the school for the new school year.

The re-purposing project is being delivered under the Department’s Special Education Needs Reconfiguration and Modular Accommodation programme.

The programme involves the use of Project Management supports which is designed to enable the accommodation to be provided as quickly as possible and help ease the administrative workload for school authorities in relation to the management and delivery of projects.

The Department is working closely with the project managers and the school authority to ensure the successful delivery of this project.
