The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade recognises the importance of supporting colleagues to advance on their learning goals relevant to their role and to the wider work of the Department. We support colleagues in our Legal Division and across the Department to further their legal knowledge particularly in areas including Irish, EU, international and employment law. 

Between June 2022 and June 2025, the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade supported eleven legal study programmes, which led to a third level educational, professional or vocational qualification and which were provided by a recognised educational institution or professional body.

The table below sets out details on the legal programmes pursued, the amount of financial support provided by the Department during the period concerned, the grade of officers supported and whether the course was conducted online, in person or through a hybrid approach of both.
