My Department, including our Embassies and Consulates worldwide, provides consular assistance to Irish citizens who get into difficulty abroad in accordance with its Consular Assistance Charter. The charter sets out the type of assistance Irish citizens can expect to receive should they get into difficulty abroad, including in cases where a citizen has been arrested or faces deportation. The provision of consular assistance is a cornerstone of the work of officials in my Department and is delivered confidentially to citizens who request assistance.

The total number of deportations from the United States of America in the year to date, where a citizen has requested consular assistance, is 41. It is important to note that these statistics only relate to cases where a citizen or their family has requested consular assistance and does not necessarily reflect all deportations to Ireland. In a number of these cases, the citizen is still going through the deportation process and, therefore, has not yet been deported.

The Deputy may wish to be aware that my Department publishes consular assistance statistics on an annual basis. These statistics provide an overview of the different types of cases where assistance has been provided for each year. The Deputy can view the consular assistance statistics at this link: .
