Subsequent to the military action by the United States on Iranian nuclear facilities on 21 June, I met with my EU colleagues at the Foreign Affairs Council (FAC) on 23 June. I spoke by telephone with the Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran on 22 June and the Foreign Minister of the United Arab Emirates on 25 June. On 2 July, I met in Dublin with the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar.
The conflict between Israel and Iran and the military action by the United States against nuclear facilities in Iran featured in these engagements and discussions.
Following the start of the conflict between Iran and Israel on 13 June, I had calls with the Foreign Minister of Egypt on 17 June and with the Foreign Ministers of Jordan and Saudi Arabia on 19 June, and took part in an emergency meeting of the FAC by VTC on 17 June.
My primary focus in each of these discussions was on encouraging restraint, calling for de-escalation and a ceasefire, and on the need for dialogue, diplomacy and a negotiated solution to concerns about Iran's nuclear programme.
