To ask the Minister for Health whether it is her view as a matter of standard policy and governance that where a concern arises regarding a potential misuse of funds, that such a matter should be referred to An Garda Síochána or whether it is appropriate for a hospital to decide for itself that such a matter does not warrant a Garda investigation. The role of the Minister for Health is primarily to deal with legislation, policy, overall budgetary allocation, and corporate governance. However the Minister has no direct over sight of individual hospitals. I have asked the HSE to reply to the Deputy directly on this matter.
