Estimates of the overall cost of any increase to the current rate of the Garda Trainee allowance are a matter for the Department of Justice.

The Garda Trainee Allowance is currently €354 per week. In 2023, the Department of Justice sought to increase the allowance, and an increase from €184 to €305 was agreed with my Department. Following further engagement last year, the weekly allowance was increased to €354 from October 2024. That is an overall increase of €170 per week when compared with 2023.
