Following engagement between the Deputy and officials of my Department, it was agreed that information would be provided in relation to health-related compensation or litigation in the Regional Health Area, HSE South West.
The State Claims Agency (SCA) has a statutory remit to manage personal injury claims on behalf of State Authorities. The SCA has provided me with the information set out below.
The following table contains the transactional amounts paid, i.e. damages, SCA legal costs, plaintiff legal costs, and expert costs (including VAT where applicable), for open and closed claims, and a small number of incidents and inquests, reported against the HSE South West region under the Clinical Indemnity Scheme.
It includes payments between 01/01/2020 and 31/12/2024 and is correct as of 01/07/2025
