Government is fully committed to delivering affordable housing at scale, and continuing to accelerate housing supply across all tenures. A comprehensive implementation strategy is in place to support the various affordable Housing schemes now being delivered by a range of delivery partners. Overall, nearly 13,000 affordable housing solutions have been delivered since the launch of Housing for All, including over 440 in Limerick.
As a key delivery partner, the Land Development Agency (LDA) deploys two main approaches to the delivery of affordable and social housing. Firstly, it secures housing delivery on lands sourced from State bodies, in partnership with local authorities or on lands purchased by the LDA. Secondly, it acts through the Project Tosaigh initiative, whereby new housing is unlocked by LDA partnerships with homebuilders.
To date in County Limerick the LDA has delivered 81 Cost Rental apartments under the Project Tosaigh initiative.
The LDA is currently at an advanced stage in planning for the development of 600 homes at the St. Joseph's Hospital site. This development is a key component of the broader regeneration project at Colbert Quarter which has the overall potential to deliver 2,800 homes for the city of Limerick.
The Agency is also at an advanced stage in planning the delivery of 285 homes at Dock Road, Limerick City.
Finally, the LDA has partnered with Limerick City and County Council to deliver 250 affordable and social homes at the Mungret site in Limerick city, for which planning approval is in place, prequalification of tenderers has been completed and arrangements are being made to issue tender documentation later this year.
