I am developing a new Student Accommodation Strategy, due for completion later this year. As part of this work, evidence has been gathered through the Technological Sector Student Accommodation Programme (TSSAP), to assess opportunities to meet future student accommodation demand. A range of accommodation delivery mechanisms and funding options are now being examined.
The Strategy will be informed by both the TSSAP and the Standardised Design Study, with the aim of providing a clear framework to support increased delivery. I am also conducting a comprehensive analysis to quantify the measures needed to close the existing gap in student accommodation and to ensure that policy responses are based on solid evidence.
Given the diverse needs of each Higher Education Institution, based on region, demand, existing stock, and transport connectivity, a multi-faceted, programmatic response is required. Success will rely on strong public private collaboration to deliver cost effective solutions for students across the country.
