607. To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine if his Department will contribute to the local improvement scheme fund in recognition of the significant proportion of roads being funded under the scheme to enable and improve access to agricultural holdings; if his Department has ever been approached by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht with a view to securing a contribution; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My understanding is that the local improvement scheme operated by the Department of Community and Rural Development provides for the kind of investment referred to by the Deputy. My Department does not have funding for this purpose, nor am I aware of any request from any other Government Department for such funding.

I will pass the Deputy’s enquiry on to that Minister for direct reply.
