As the Deputy may be aware from my previous replies on this issue, psychology has been a uniquely challenging profession to regulate due to the diversity of its specialisms and the fact that there is no common education pathway or standards for entry to the profession.
CORU, which is Ireland's multi-profession health regulator responsible for regulating health and social care professionals, has undertaken a significant body of work to progress the opening of the Psychologists Registration Board.
My Department is currently prioritising a Regulated Professions Bill, which will ensure legislative provisions are in place to expedite the opening of the psychologist register. It is now anticipated that the first three divisions of the register will open in early 2026.
