163. To ask the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality the current official operational capacity of Oberstown Detention Campus; the number of beds actually available for remand, as of 20 June 2025; how this compares with demand on 20 June 2024, in tabular form; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Oberstown Children Detention Campus is the State’s sole detention centre for children. The maximum occupancy in Oberstown is set by the Minister for Children, Disability and Equality by way of a certificate made under the Children Act 2001.

This certificate is currently set at 46 (40 boys and 6 girls). Places can be used to accommodate both children on detention orders and children on remanded orders.

The certificate on the 20th June 2024 was the same as that of the 20th June 2025 – a maximum total of 46 - 40 beds for boys and 6 for girls.

The occupancy on the 20th June 2024 and on the 20th June 2025 for boys was:

- Detention Remand Total
20/06/2024 21 14 35
20/06/2025 29 10 39
There were no girls on Campus on either date.
