430. To ask the Minister for Education and Skills if her Department is correct to state that a teacher (details supplied) would only receive an annual pension of €1982.65 after over 17 years of teaching; if there is a way for this individual to buy back credits; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The individual in question is enrolled in two different pension schemes with the Department of Education. The benefits statement they are referring to pertains to their membership in the Single Public Service Pension Scheme. Public sector employees, including teachers, who joined the public service on or after January 1, 2013, or had a break in service of 26 weeks or more, are typically members of this scheme.

Additionally, the individual has preserved benefits from the Post Primary Teachers Pension Scheme. I can confirm that officials from Pension Unit of the Department have recently communicated with the individual regarding their retirement benefits under this scheme. A statement confirming the benefits accrued in their previous pension scheme has been sent by post.

As the National Council for Special Education (NCSE) is responsible for the allocation of special needs assistants (SNAs) to schools, I have forwarded the school's details to them for their attention and direct reply.

Deputies are also welcome to raise such matters with the NCSE directly through their dedicated Oireachtas query line at oireachtasqueries@ncse.ie.
