Education and Training Boards (ETB) Ireland have advised my officials that the scheduling of exams and repeat exams falls within the remit of an individual ETB and each College of FET within that ETB under the direction of the respective Director of FET, taking cognisance of programme delivery and available staff resources.
As the Deputy will appreciate, PLC courses are provided by Colleges of FET across the 16 ETBs. Delivery of FET provision is supported by staff who are employed FET in varying capacities and with varying contracts. Contracts and provision in Colleges of FET may in some instances be aligned to the post-primary school calendar, staff are therefore resourced to support the programme calendar.
As independent statutory bodies, timetabling and scheduling is a matter for the ETBs. In my role as Minister, I have no function in relation to these operational matters.
