592. To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection further to Parliamentary Question No. 909 of 10 June 2025, if it is his intention to further extend a free travel companion pass to those holders of free travel pass who are single and widowed persons, who are aged under 70; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Any decision to further extend the over 70 Free Travel Companion Pass Budget 2025 measure to holders of a Free Travel Pass aged under 70 who are single and widowed persons, would require additional funding for the Free Travel scheme and would have to be considered in the context of overall budgetary negotiations.
Free Travel Pass holders aged under 70 can of course receive a Free Travel Companion Pass if, on account of their disability, they are medically certified as unable to travel alone.
I hope this clarifies the matter for the Deputy.
