The Criminal Assets Bureau exists as an independent corporate body as provided for under section 3 of the Criminal Assets Bureau Act 1996.Section 8 of the CAB Act provides for the appointment of officers of the Bureau from An Garda Síochána, the Revenue Commissioners and the Department of Social Protection who operate in an inter-agency and multi-disciplinary structure within the Bureau.Officers of the Bureau including those seconded from my Department continue to be vested with the powers and duties of office, in this case Social Welfare Inspectors, notwithstanding their appointment as Bureau Officers. Officers of the Criminal Assets Bureau share information within the meaning of Section 8 of the 1996 Act.I trust that this information is of assistance to the Deputy.
