76. To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment for an update on the development of the voluntary code of practice to support the hiring of workers with a disability, as committed to in the Programme for Government; to outline the expected timeline for its publication and implementation following initial stakeholder engagement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As set out previously, work has begun on the design of a voluntary Code of Practice to support the hiring of workers with a disability.

Some businesses and state agencies already have some form of best practice, which is very encouraging.

I believe that there is a role for a voluntary code that will have a particular focus on neurodiversity, learning from excellent examples already being applied in various private sector settings. Engagement with stakeholders on this has already commenced and I look forward to the results of this work.

The forthcoming National Disability Strategy will include employment as an important consideration, one of five key pillars. The National Disability Strategy is intended as a whole-of-government framework for the implementation of the UNCRPD in Ireland and is intended for publication in the coming months.
