There has been considerable progress made in relation to the planning application for a car park to provide visitor parking or Castletown House and Estate. The following reports have been completed:

  • Architectural & Planning Statement
  • Architectural Heritage Impact Assessment
  • Archaeological Impact Assessment
  • Landscape Design Statement
  • Appropriate Assessment
  • Ecological Impact Assessment
  • Arboricultural Method Statement
  • Arboricultural Impact Assessment
  • Landscape Visual Impact Assessment
  • Flood Risk Assessment
In addition to the reports above, there are a further documents that have been completed. These range from sit layout plans to detailed bridge designs, boundary treatments plans, tree surveys, and construction waste managements plans.

An application seeking a pre-planning meeting was submitted to the planning authority on 16 May. This meeting will take place on 26 June 2025.

Once the plans have been finalised they will be submitted to the landowner at Kildare Innovation Centre for a Letter of Consent for the planning application which is required prior to submitting the application to the local authority.

For the avoidance of doubt, this planning application is for a visitor car park. This car park will be connected to Castletown house and estate by a path through the woodlands, which will be primarily for pedestrians and cyclists. Like all paths in the estate, it will be used occasionally by OPW works vehicles so that staff may undertake relevant duties. There is no intention to provide a road suitable for vehicles to enter the Estate from the new car park.
