To ask the Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection the number of people awaiting a decision on social welfare payments and allowances applications; the number of appeal decisions awaiting a response; the number of applications for social welfare that have been made for the previous 12 months, within Cork north central; the number of staff working within the appeals section of his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Separate figures for Cork North Central are not available. Therefore the following figures provided are national figures for the whole country.
As of the end of April 2025, there were 50,372 pending applications for social welfare payments and 19,296 appeal decisions pending.
In 2024, there were approximately 3,580,000 applications registered by the department.
There are currently a total of 86 staff working in the Social Welfare Appeals Office.
