202. To ask the Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government if a consumer pays the €1.50 recycling charge when they purchase a new motorcycle tyre, if they are exempt from paying the same charge when they attend the recycling centre to dispose of the tyre when it has worn out. In 2017, Ireland introduced an Extended Producer Responsibility scheme for tyres which is operated by Circol ELT.

A consumer may return a used tyre which was subject to a visible Environmental Management Cost (vEMC) to the retailer where they bought the tyre, and the retailer is obliged to take the tyre back free of charge. There is no obligation to buy a replacement tyre.
