587. To ask the Minister for Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht if Kerry County Council has provided a timeline for the commencement of the works on the Kilderry loop amenity walk in Milltown, County Kerry; if any of the outdoor recreation infrastructure scheme funding for this project has been drawn down to date; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) provides funding for the development and enhancement of outdoor recreational infrastructure such as walking trails, cycleways, water-based recreation sites and mountain trails.
Under ORIS 2023, Kerry County Council was approved funding of €445,140 for the Milltown - Kilderry Looped Amenity Walk. The works include the construction of a 1.5km extension to the Kilderry Wood Walk, creating a looped countryside amenity walk of 3.1km. The project also includes the provision of 600m footpath to link Milltown and to Kilderry Wood Entrance.
My officials have liaised with the local authority who have confirmed construction is due to commence in Quarter 4 of 2025 and is on track to meet the scheme deadline of 26th June 2026. No funds have been drawn down on this project to date.
