My Department does not differentiate between emails to the dedicated animal welfare email address and calls received through the animal welfare helpline. Both of these forms of communication generate official animal welfare complaints through our system.

Animal welfare complaints generate case reports which are referred for investigation by authorised officers and appropriate action is taken, which could include prosecution.

Members of the public can report alleged incidents of animal cruelty or neglect for investigation, to my Department's confidential animal welfare helpline: Phone No: 01 607 2379 and email address: animalwelfare@agriculture.gov.ie.

As per the clarification supplied by the Deputy, The total number of complaints which generated case reports between May 2024 and May 2025 is 2,535.
