247. To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Justice and Equality the total number of Ukrainian arrivals to Ireland since 2024, broken down by month, in tabular form, and the average number of Ukrainian arrivals to Ireland this year per day as of 5 June 2025; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand the Deputy has clarified that he is referring to Ukrainian nationals who have arrived in Ireland as Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection (BoTP).
I can advise the Deputy that in June 2024, the Council of the European Union adopted the decision to extend the Temporary Protection Directive until March 2026. This was an important demonstration of continued solidarity and support for Ukraine at a time when innocent civilians continue to be displaced as a direct result of ongoing Russian aggression. Consideration as to the arrangements to be put in place following the expiry of the Directive are ongoing, both within the Government and at an EU level. Last week, the Commission published a proposal to extend the Temporary Protection Directive for a further 12 months until March 2027, as well as a proposal for a Council Recommendation on the transition out of temporary protection. These proposals will now be the subject of consideration and discussion between Member States.
BoTP hold temporary permission to remain in Ireland, and this permission is renewable on an annual basis as long as the Directive remains in force.
A project is currently underway within my Department to renew the permission of all Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection currently in the State. To renew their permission, applicants must apply and show evidence that they are currently residing in Ireland. It is envisaged that this project will be concluded later this year, and once completed, I will be in a position to outline the total number of BoTPs who are currently resident in the State.
Any BoTP that wishes to renew their permission must do so online. Further information regarding the renewal process is available on my Department's Immigration Service website at the following link: www.irishimmigration.ie/registering-your-immigration-permission/how-to-renew-your-current-permission/registration-renewal-beneficiaries-of-temporary-protection/
