357. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport if plans are in place to address the additional costs associated with renewing the driver’s licence for persons with a neurological condition, who must renew their driver’s licence three times within ten years, while persons without a neurological condition must only renew once; and if he will make a statement on the matter. As Minister of State for International & Road Transport, Logistics, Rail & Ports, I wish to advise that a one or three year driving licence may be issued in Ireland where, for medical reasons, a longer licence term cannot be granted.
The cost of a three year licence is €35. This is set out in the Road Traffic (Licensing of Drivers) (Fees) Regulations 2024 (SI 673/2024). My Department has no plans to review the fee for a three year licence at this time.
