As per the National Ports Policy (2013), the State-owned commercial port companies do not receive Exchequer funding. The ports are self-funding commercial entities that are expected to fund their developments through their own revenues, borrowings, EU grant funding or private sector involvement.

Therefore, all port related capital expenditure projects from 2015 to date in commercial State ports were funded without recourse to the Exchequer.
