There has been significant bilateral high-level political engagement in recent years between Ireland and Canada, including in recent months with the new Canadian administration.
Over the St Patrick’s Day period in 2025, Minister Timmy Dooley visited Montreal, Ottawa and Toronto and Minister Alan Dillon visited Vancouver. Prime Minister Mark Carney joined Minister Dooley to participate in the 200th Montreal Saint Patrick’s Day parade. During his visit, Minister Dooley also met with Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries, Oceans and the Canadian Coast Guard, and Kody Blois, then Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food and Rural Economic Development.
While my own travel schedule for the year has yet to be finalised, I have written to Prime Minister Carney to congratulate him on his appointment as Prime Minister, and I look forward to engaging with his government.
The Government looks forward to welcoming representative of the Canadian Government at the 40th anniversary of the Air India memorial service, which will take place on 23 June 2025 in Ahakista in West Cork.
