In light of the nature of evidence discovered in the course of my Department’s investigation of the food premises referenced, it was agreed earlier this year that it was appropriate that An Garda Síochána take the lead role in that investigation. I have been advised that this investigation remains ongoing with ongoing support and assistance being provided by my Department. When the Garda-led investigation into these matters has concluded it will be a matter for the Gardaí and ultimately the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine the appropriate charges that might be pursued.
While it is vitally important to ensure that process continues without prejudice, I can confirm my Department is fully committed to giving all necessary assistance to An Garda Síochána to enable appropriate enforcement action be taken where any breaches of the law are found to have occurred.
