The Garda Commissioner is responsible for managing and controlling generally the administration and business of An Garda Síochána under the Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024, including the training of Garda personnel. As Minister, I have no role in the matter.

I am informed by the Garda authorities that as of 30 April 2025, there were 3,660 vehicles attached to the Garda fleet. This is the highest total of vehicles ever in use by An Garda Síochána, and represents an increase of over 17% since the end of December 2020. The Kildare fleet has increased 32% since 2020.

I have been informed by the Garda authorities that the table below outlines the number of training places for van and personnel carriers provided to members stationed in the county of Kildare.

Number of training places for van and personnel carriers provided to members stationed in the county of Kildare only*

Year Van / personnel carrier
2024 6
2025 to date 2
*On the 11 May 2025, the county of Kildare became part of the newly formed Kildare/Carlow Division under the Garda Operating Model.
