I propose to take Questions Nos. 990 and 991 together.
The Road Safety Authority (RSA) has a statutory remit to report on fatal, serious and minor injury collisions on public roads. The RSA receives collision data from An Garda Síochána for this purpose and produces official statistics to help develop evidence-based road safety interventions.
Road traffic legislation is enforced as part of the day-to-day duties of members of An Garda Síochána, as well as through a programme of high-visibility road safety and enforcement operations, carried out in partnership with other State agencies, including Government Departments, the Road Safety Authority, the National Roads Authority, and the community, in order to make our roads safer for all.
I am advised by the Garda Authorities that the following table sets out the number of fatal road accidents involving a HGV in the years 2022, 2023, and 2024.
2022 | 2023 | 2024 |
---|---|---|
29 | 27 | 21 |
I am advised by the Garda Authorities that the number of incidents of HGVs which were involved in Fatal Traffic Collisions from 2022 to 2024, in which the holder of a foreign license was involved, is too low to report as it is less than ten in each year.
The approach of redacting low figures in respect of disclosure and/or publication of statistics related to individual data subjects is designed to ensure that statistics can remain effectively anonymous.

I have requested the information sought by the Deputy from the Garda authorities. Regrettably, this was not available in time and I will write to the Deputy once the information is to hand.
