I refer to Parliamentary Question No. 268 of 3 April 2025 and No. 1,640 of 29 April 2025 where you sought:
"with regard to Garda Public Order instructors posts in either Templemore Training College and Garda Headquarters, the number of posts filled; the number of vacant posts; and when those vacant posts will be filled, in tabular form."
As you will recall, I sought the information from the Garda authorities and undertook to contact you again once the information was to hand.
The Garda College is the national centre for police training, development and learning within the Irish State. In addition to delivering the Foundation Programme for Garda Trainees, the Garda College provides a wide range of Operational, Specialist and Professional Development training courses for Garda Members and Garda Staff.
Crime Specialist and Operational Skills Training encompasses the following areas; Driver Training, Firearms Training, Crime Investigation Training, Crime Management Training, Operational Skills, Specialist and Investigative Interview Training.
Leadership Management and Professional Development (LMPD) facilitates and supports the analysis, design, development, implementation and review of training courses to An Garda Síochána and incorporates developmental and skills programmes aimed at professionalising Garda personnel in the delivery of an excellent policing service.
I am informed by the Garda authorities that there are 2 Public Order Instructors attached to the Garda College. There are none attached to Garda Headquarters. There are currently no vacancies.
It should be noted that Public Order training is also provided on a part-time basis by instructors who are based regionally throughout the country. The details of these additional instructors are given in the table below.
= | Dublin Metropolitan Region | North West Region | Eastern Region | Southern Region |

Public Order Instructor | 21 | 9 | 17 | 18 |

Road traffic laws are enforced by both Roads Policing personnel and as part of the day-to-day duties of uniformed Gardaí nationwide. This includes a programme of high-visibility road safety and enforcement operations carried out in partnership with other state agencies. The Commissioner has also directed that all uniform Garda members are to be deployed on high visibility roads policing operations, of 30 minutes duration, in each tour of duty.
I am advised that as of 30 April 2025, the latest date for which figures are available, there were 618 Roads Policing Gardaí assigned across all Divisions.
In the interest of transparency, information in relation to the allocation of Roads Policing by Division is publicly available and can be found at the following link.
