Invalidity Pension (IP) is a payment for people who are permanently incapable of work because of illness or incapacity and for no other reason and who satisfy the pay related social insurance (PRSI) contribution conditions.

The Department received an application for IP from the person concerned on 24 February 2025. The person referred to has the required PRSI contributions for IP and satisfies the qualifying contribution conditions. However, their claim was refused on the grounds that the medical conditions for the scheme were not satisfied. They were notified on 28 February 2025 of this decision, the reasons for it and of their right of review and/or appeal to the Social Welfare Appeals Office (SWAO).

The person concerned has appealed the decision and a file was sent to the SWAO on 17 April 2025 for further determination by an Appeals Officer. The SWAO will be in touch with the individual concerned directly in relation to the outcome of their appeal.

I trust this clarifies the position for the Deputy.

The person concerned will reach pension age on 10 June 2025.

A letter issued to the person concerned on 28 May 2025 to advise that the State Pension (contributory) was awarded with effect from 10 June 2025 at a rate of €271.90 which is equivalent to 94% of the maximum rate of payment.

According to the records of my Department, the last contributions recorded for the person concerned were in 2023. It is open to them to request a review of their rate of payment, if they acquire additional contributions for the period 2024 to 10 June 2025.

A request for supporting documents for the Fuel Allowance issued on 28 May 2025. On receipt of this information, a decision will be made.

I hope this clarifies the position for the Deputy.
