830. To ask the Minister for Housing, Planning, and Local Government to clarify the role of local authorities in the regulation of commercial drone delivery operations, including their responsibilities in respect of planning oversight, noise impact assessments, operational parameters such as flight times and routes and public consultation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The matter raised is one in which, in my role as Minister with responsibility for Housing, Planning and Local Government, I have no statutory function. Local authorities have no role in the regulation of commercial drone operations. This is a matter for the Irish Aviation Authority (IAA), which is under the aegis of my colleague the Minister for Transport, whose Department has responsibility for the registering of drone operators, safety and regulation, and undertaking stakeholder consultations in relation to the policy-making process with regard to their proper operation.
