The National Council for Special Education (NCSE) has responsibility for coordinating and advising on the education provision for children with special educational needs.

The NCSE is, in the first instance, the primary body responsible for the matter the Deputy has raised. I have forwarded this issue to them for their attention and direct reply.

Deputies are also welcome to raise such queries with the NCSE directly through their dedicated Oireachtas query line at oireachtasqueries@ncse.ie.

The Project referred to by the Deputy was approved to enter the department’s pipeline of school buildings to provide one mainstream classroom, two SET rooms and a two classroom SEN base under the department‘s Additional School Accommodation (ASA) Scheme.

I can confirm that in January 2025 this project received my department’s approval to proceed to planning and my department now awaits a post planning (developed design) report from the school for review.

My department will continue to engage with the school authority to provide practical advice and assistance on this much needed project.
