I thank the Deputy for his amended question, as follows: To ask the Minister for Transport to provide a breakdown of any Exchequer funding received by Kerry airport between 2012 and 2015 in tabular form; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
In addition to the information provided to the Deputy recently in relation to the period 2016 to date, I can advise that Exchequer supports totalling over €4.7 million were provided to Kerry Airport by my Department over the period 2012-2015. A breakdown of this funding is set out below.
FUNDING PROGRAMME/SCHEME | GRANT SCHEME | 2012 | 2013 | 2014 | 2015 |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Regional Airports Programme | CAPEX | €1,633,946 | €740,958 | €133,156 | - |
PPR-C | - | - | - | €402,783 | |
PPR-O | - | - | - | €311,260 | |
OPEX | €550,000 | €436,918 | €507,224 | - | |
Total | €2,183,946 | €1,177,876 | €640,380 | €714,043 |
GRANT SCHEME | DETAIL |
---|---|
CAPEX | Funding safety and security related capital expenditure of an economic nature |
PPR-C | Funding capital expenditure for services that normally fall within a 'Public Policy Remit' and generate no economic return for an airport, for example Fire Service, Air Traffic Control and Security |
PPR-O | Funding operational expenditure that normally fall within a 'Public Policy Remit' (as above) |
OPEX | Scheme in place up until 2020 - Funding safety and security related operational expenditure of an economic nature - Kerry Airport was eligible up until 2014. |
The Deputy will be aware that Kerry Airport, along with Ireland West and Donegal airports have remained eligible for funding under this Programme. A total package of almost €17 million is available for allocation this year which demonstrates Government's commitment to eligible regional airports which provide connectivity.
Earlier this month I was delighted to announce €1.8 million in capital funding for Kerry Airport. The airport will also be eligible for operational supports from my Department under the Programme later this year.
