266. To ask the Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment to outline the decision-making process and rationale behind his Department’s decision not to facilitate party overflow badges for Irish civil society to attend SB62, and whether any consideration was given to how this exclusion aligns with Ireland’s commitments under the Aarhus Convention, and in comparison to the approaches taken by other EU member states; and if he will make a statement on the matter. In line with the practice of previous years, the Department will be providing a limited number of party overflow badges to Irish civil society to attend 62nd Meeting of the Subsidiary Bodies to the UNFCCC (SB62).

To date, the Department has received a small number of requests for party overflow badges for SB62. Initial responses to such requests indicated that party overflow badges would not be provided for SB62. This was due to an administrative error which has since been rectified. All requesters are being contacted by my Department and arrangements made to process these applications, as and where appropriate. Applications for COP30 party overflow badges will open shortly via Gov.ie.

My Department is proud to facilitate Irish civil society, academic and private sector engagement with the UNFCCC process, at both the annual June meetings of the Subsidiary Bodies and at the November meetings of the Conference of the Parties (COP), through the provision of party overflow badges.
