The Probation Service delivers restorative justice directly, and through several community-based organisations that receive referrals at specific points in the criminal justice process. I am advised the Probation Service provides funding to five community-based organisations to provide dedicated restorative justice programmes. The funding provided to these organisations in 2024 for restorative justice services is outlined in the table below.
- | Amount Granted 2024 |
---|---|
Restorative Justice Services Dublin, Wicklow, Meath and Kildare | €526,178.10 |
Restorative Justice in the Community- Tipperary, Laois, Offaly, Westmeath, Carlow and Kilkenny | €324,350.00 |
Le Chéile Mentoring Limerick, & Clare, Cork and Kerry | €107,535.00 |
Cornmarket Project Funding in relation to RJ/Outreach Worker - Wexford | €40,000.00 |
Tuam Community Training Centre Galway, Sligo, and Roscommon. | €65,000.00 |
Due to limitations with existing data collection systems, the Probation Service cannot currently distinguish between adults, young persons and juveniles with regards to their engagement with restorative justice services, so a specific figure for young offenders is not available.
I am advised, however, that in 2024, a total of 129 individuals were referred to the Probation Service from the courts for Restorative Justice interventions.
