The capitation grant for Gaeltacht summer colleges has not been paid by the Department of Education and Youth since 2008. Funding for the Gaeltacht summer colleges sector is a matter for the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht.

Based on data provided by the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, approximately 27,500 students attended registered Gaeltacht summer colleges in 2024. Based on these figures and the rate of the grant provided by the Deputy (€52 per student), the estimated annual cost of restoring the capitation grant would be approximately €1.43 million.
