Deputy, significant additional resources have been identified and it is intended to commence work on updating the primary standardised tests for Irish medium schools (TGD-G) and English medium school (TDG-R). It is expected that this work will take 3 years to complete with costs for the development in the region of €5.18m
Additional grants to English medium schools to purchase the Irish tests would be required from the year that the tests were available. Data for schools under the Free Education Scheme 2023-2024 indicates there are 556,084 learners in recognised primary and special schools, with an estimated figure of 503,329 learners in English medium schools. An additional €1.50 per pupil in English medium school’s would be required with an estimated additional cost of €754,993.
