The Microgeneration Support Scheme (MSS) was approved by Government on 21 December 2021, to support Ireland’s ambitious targets for micro-generation installations, under the Climate Action Plan 21. The MSS provides supports to both domestic and non-domestic applicants, in the form of grants for Solar PV installations, which are available through the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI). Domestic grants are currently available for up to a maximum of €1,800.

The table below shows the average size for solar pv installations that were supported under the Domestic SPV scheme, over the last 3 years. The average costs shown are self-reported by installers/customers as part of the grant application process and cannot be verified by SEAI.

Average size & recorded cost of grant-aided Domestic SPV systems

Year Size (kWp) Cost of installation
2023 5.19 € 11,924
2024 5.68 € 10,967
2025 to date 5.99 € 10,567
Please note that the installation costs include VAT, which accounts for the slight drop in price since 2024.
