I propose to take Questions Nos. 364 and 392 together.

Galway University Hospitals comprises Merlin Park University Hospital and University Hospital Galway (UHG). UHG is the Model 4 hospital for the HSE West and North-West region and is one of eight national designated cancer centres. Some localised cancer services operate out of smaller hospitals in the HSE West North West region and UHG also supports a satellite centre for breast cancer at Letterkenny.

There are a number of significant capital investment projects proposed for the University Hospital Galway site and a HSE Capital Oversight Group is developing a masterplan focused on key projects. These projects include a cancer centre, a new emergency department, replacement laboratories and inpatient ward blocks.

A capital infrastructure Strategic Assessment Report (SAR) for this programme is, as of May 2025, with the HSE Audit & Risk Committee. If approved, the SAR will be submitted to the Department of Health for review in line with the Infrastructure Guidelines.
