193. To ask the Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport in light of recent reports that Galway City and County Council intend to sell the site of the Former Galway Airport at Carnmore, if consideration has been given by his Department to purchasing the site for its reopening as a regional airport to serve the city of Galway, the only city of the five regional cities of the National Planning Framework without an operational airport within its metropolitan area. I wish to advise the Deputy that no consideration has been given by my Department to the purchase of the former Galway Airport site from Galway City and Galway County Councils.

Irish airports are owned and operated under various different ownership models. While Dublin, Cork and Shannon airports are fully owned by the State, the ownerships of other airports, such as Ireland West (Knock), Kerry and Donegal, vary but with some local authority involvement in some.

There is no policy objective or plans to bring any other airport into State ownership.
