The current Programme for Government commits to establishing a national child death review mechanism on a statutory basis. This commitment is made under the "Strengthening Tusla and protecting children in State care" heading in the Children and Young People section of the Programme for Government.

My Department will be happy to proactively engage with the nominated lead department responsible for the delivery of the statutory child death review mechanism.

The report of the National Paediatric Mortality Register (NPMR), published by the National Office of Clinical Audit (NOCA), analyses data relating to mortality in children and young people aged under 19 years in Ireland. The last NPMR report was published in February 2025 and included detailed analysis of data on mortality in children and young people in Ireland from 2019 to 2023.

The current Programme for Government commits to establishing a national child death review mechanism on a statutory basis. This commitment is made under the "Strengthening Tusla and protecting children in State care" heading in the Children and Young People section of the Programme for Government.

My Department will be happy to proactively engage with the nominated lead department responsible for the delivery of the statutory child death review mechanism.
